What is FICCE?
The Foundation Iaşi – European Cultural Capital was founded in September 2013 by the City Council of Iaşi as a result of public debates that involved representatives of decision makers and of key cultural institutions, as well as institutions in the fields of culture and creativity. The objective of the Foundation is to promote the cultural identity of Iaşi, both inside the country and abroad, with the final aim of obtaining the European Cultural Capital title. The Foundation manages the local cultural initiatives that resonate with the candidacy evaluation criteria of the European Committee. Also, this structure may draw external funds through building partnerships with commercial entities of European government programs.
The Foundation creates the social and urban development strategy based on Iaşi’s strong cultural backdrop. It reunites and supports the efforts of creators and institutions. It promotes remarkable artistic manifestations that will be included in the candidacy program (2014-2021).
Iulian Boia is a graduate of the Faculty of Economy and Business Administration, specializing in Management (2008). He has gained international work experience both in entrepreneurial and corporate environments; as a member of AIESEC, he attended traineeships in Slovakia and Belgium. In 2011, he founded a company which is now active in the field of creative industries and exports products to more than seven European countries. He has been activating for more than 10 years as a volunteer and social activist and is currently a founding member of the Iași Community Foundation (which deals with the development of local philanthropy) and of the CIVICA Association (which deals with active citizenship and efficient governing). As a volunteer, he got involved in civic projects and campaigns such as Ieșenii vor aeroport [the people of Iași want an airport] (advocacy for the rehabilitation of the Iași airport and for increasing the number of international flights), Turnul Nostru [our Tower] (urban rejuvenation) or Cafeneaua publica [the Public Café] (community mobilization). He is currently the Executive Director of the foundation that administers the Iași 2021 programme.
Elena Iuliana Dornescu is a philologist by formation, holding two degrees awarded by the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iași (2008). She graduated from the Romanian Literary Studies Masters Programme at the University of Bucharest (2010) and from the Foreign Policy and Diplomacy course organized by the Romanian Diplomatic Institute of Bucharest (2013). Prior to her position within the foundation, where she is in charge of European projects and coordinates the administrative activity, she was the editor-in-chief of the Iași-based Cityscape publicity magazine (2006-2008), copywriter of the Noriel Maxim publishing house of children’s literature (2009-2010), proofreader and editor of the Humanitas Publishing House (2010-2013) and consular assistant within the Consular Department of the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2014-2015).
Bianca-Gabriela Grigoriu attended the courses of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Sciences at the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iași. During her student years, she was in charge of the PR department of the Student-Journalists’ Association. She worked in the press as a reporter, editor and news presenter, both in radio (Radio Nord Est, Radio Guerilla) and TV (TV Bit, Tele M); at the same time, she got involved in online projects. From May 2011 to February 2015, she was a PR Specialist at the Romanian National Opera of Iași; starting with October 2013, she cooperates, as a PR Executive, in the performance of the International Festival of Literature and Translation (FILIT) in Iași. Moreover, she cooperated with TVR Iași as a PR Officer (Ia’si descopera Gala, the International Seminar of Journalism 2015). She is currently a PR specialist at the Iași – European Cultural Capital Foundation.
Cătălina Plaiu graduated from the Faculty of Law (2008), and from the Faculty of Economy and Business Administration – Management (2011), both at the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iași. In 2012 she became an Inspector Specialist at the Public Purchase Office within the Iași City Hall. Cătălina is currently a Legal Adviser of the Iași – European Cultural Capital Foundation, and a part of the team which is responsible with the implementation of the cultural programme for the candidacy of the city of Iași for the title of European Capital of Culture in 2021.
Sorin Andrei Nicoleanu is an economist; he graduated from the Academy of Economic Studies – the Faculty of Commerce (Bucharest). He has an experience of more than 10 years in financial management, accounting, and human resources. He is responsible with the finances of the Foundation and deals with budgeting, financial management and European project elaboration.
Special Event Organizer
Oana Miron is a graduate of the “George Enescu” University of Arts, Iași, specializing in acting; she also holds a Master’s degree in Performing Arts (she is currently a student of the Cultural Management and Artistic Entrepreneurship Master’s Programme). She organizes the special events of the Foundation. She has gained work experience in the media as a compere of news and entertainment shows, editor, voice-over; she was part of the organizing teams of ContemporanIS (international festival of contemporary drama) and PERFORM (independent festival of drama and performing art).
